Announcing the news of the update on its blog, Valve teases The Last Stand with a cryptic description leaving much to the imagination.

“It has been many years since the infection first hit,” writes Valve. “Radio silence, no sign of life, nothing but lingering hopes… CEDA is not going to save us. But there is hope! A few brave souls have continued the fight against all odds, and soon we can all benefit from their resilience.

Speaking of the series, a bunch of details on the now-cancelled Left 4 Dead 3 have made their way online, and honestly, it’s made my heart pretty sad to hear some of this stuff.

According to a new documentary courtesy of video games personality, Geoff Keighley, there were big plans in the works for the L4D franchise before it got hit with a Game Over.

The game was apparently designed as another co-op shooter, but was also set to introduce a range of new features and mechanics to blur the lines of what a co-op shooter can and can’t be. It’s believed that L4D 3 was set to be an open-world game which could feature hundreds of zombies on your screen at any time.

The game was also set to take place in Northern Africa, which is an area rarely seen in AAA video games.

Hopefully Valve will one day return to the Left 4 Dead franchise with a new game!
