The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s official title is being kept a secret, and there’s a good reason why.
We first got a tease for ‘Breath of the Wild 2’ at E3 2019, nearly two years ago! Since then, fans have been hoping and praying that we’d finally get to see more of the highly anticipated sequel at any opportunity. This year’s E3 was the answer – we finally got a look at some gorgeous new gameplay.
Up to this point, we’ve been calling the sequel “Breath of the Wild 2”. I mean, it makes sense. After all, it is a sequel to 2017’s ‘Breath of the Wild’. But eagle-eyed fans might have noticed something a little bit different with the E3 2021 trailer.
It seems that the title on any videos related to the sequel have all been changed on the Nintendo YouTube channel.
What Does It Mean?
The new “Breath of the Wild 2” trailer was changed to “Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”. This suggests to us that the sequel won’t carry the number 2. According to an IGN interview with Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America’s Senior Director of Product Marketing, that certainly seems to be the case.
“As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because Zelda’s names are kind of important,” said Trinen. “Those subtitles … they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen”.
So why is Nintendo keeping it a secret?
Well, it’s likely due to spoilers or revealing too much too soon. Sure, they could just call it Breath of the Wild 2. But perhaps Nintendo is looking for something a little more creative, related directly to the plot.
For now, we’re going to continue to call it “Breath of the Wild 2” until there’s official confirmation. What do you think the full title of the game will be? Let us know across our social media channels.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will release for Nintendo Switch in 2022.
