The Lord of the Rings anime is on the way and the director working on it has also worked on the iconic Ghost in the Shell franchise.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim takes place around 250 years before the events of the main trilogy from J.R.R Tolkien.
Fans of the novels and Peter Jackson’s movies would have heard about the war of Helm Hammerhand. However, now, we’re going to learn even more about the infamous Helm’s Deep. This also means that we’ll learn more about the King of Rohan.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim will act as a prequel animated movie and it will be directed by critically acclaimed anime creator, and director of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Kenji Kamiyama. The animated movie is in partnership with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation.
As reported by Deadline, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are not involved with the production of the animated movie, or at least at the time of writing.
Word of The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim was also spread across social media in a tweet from Spiral Curse Demarco, who is the producer of the animated movie.
“I’m so happy I can finally talk about this. (Deep breath) I AM PRODUCING A LORD OF THE RINGS ANIME FEATURE!!!!! Woooooo”
What else do we know?
Warner Bros. Pictures Group, and New Line Cinema, said in a joint statement: “All of us at New Line feel a deep affinity for the extraordinary world J.R.R. Tolkien created, so the opportunity to dive back into Middle-earth with the team at Warner Bros. Animation is a dream come true.
“Fans know Helm’s Deep as the stage for one of the greatest battles ever put to film and, with many of the same creative visionaries involved and the brilliant Kenji Kamiyama at the helm, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver a fresh vision of its history that will invite global audiences to experience the rich, complex saga of Middle-earth in a thrilling new way.”
“This will be yet another epic portrayal of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world that has never been told before. We’re honored to partner with much of the incredible talent behind both film trilogies, along with new creative luminaries to tell this story,” added Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation.
