Halloween may be over, but we’re certainly not. The Luigi’s Mansion LEGO sets will be haunting shelves January 1, 2022.
Nintendo announced on its official Twitter account that the latest in its series of collaborations with LEGO will be based on Luigi’s Mansion.
There are three new sets coming, based on different areas of the original game. One set includes Professor E. Gadd and his laboratory, while the other two are based on the mansion itself. You’ll be able to don Luigi with his classic Poltergust 3000. There also seem to be figures based on King Boo and Luigi’s best friend Polterpup included in the second two sets.
What’s important to note is that the green man himself doesn’t seem to be included in the sets.
It’s great to see that Nintendo is exploring more than just the core Mario series with it’s LEGO sets. Most of the sets so far have been based on the mustachioed man’s 2D side scrolling adventures. Though we have seen some real creativity in other sets.
Nintendo and LEGO also released a set based on a NES and an old TV. And more recently they released a question block set that expands to reveal Super Mario 64 levels in minibrick form. A set based on Super Mario Party could be a great way to add some fun (and pain) to the brick building process.
Nintendo really seem to be returning to their toy making roots with these LEGO sets. It also seems to be a part of their wider plan to have a broader appeal as a company. Nintendo are partnering with Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions) to make a Mario movie, and they also recently opened Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Osaka. Whatever they’ll announce next is anyone’s guess.
