It seems Nintendo is still showing its back-catalogue some love, as the 2017 Nintendo Switch hit Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just received a new update for the first time in two years.
As spotted by VGC, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s new update will fix a variety of bugs within the game. Sadly, we won’t see any new tracks or modes added, but at least we know Nintendo is still committed to its older titles even after they’ve hit the shelves!
The patch, released May 25 2021, fixes just two issues. Nintendo explains the patch addresses both “an issue that caused tournament points to be reset,” and “an issue that caused match history with friends to be reset.” The tweaks are minor, but they’re definitely two much-needed quality-of-life improvements!
While the update is out of the blue, it’s not all that surprising. Despite now being four years old, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still one of the biggest sellers for the Nintendo Switch, regularly topping the sales charts.
Nintendo also recently updated another Mario Switch game, Super Mario Party. The update introduced the following:
Mario Party: The iconic board game mode where you roll dice to move and try to finish with the most Stars.
Partner Party: A 2 vs. 2 team edition of Mario Party where you share your dice rolls with your partner and have free movement.
Minigames: This is the place to go if you just want to focus on the minigames themselves.
As Nintendo notes, before the April update, “online play was limited to Online Mariothon, where you challenged opponents to short minigame-offs.”
Again, while the update was both unexpected and welcome, players still want to see new boards added into Super Mario Party (it’s me. I am players). Hopefully one day this will be a reality, as it definitely looks as though Nintendo isn’t shying away from updating its older games!
