Mario Kart Tour Is More Popular On iPhone Than Fortnite And Call Of Duty

Mario Kart Tour, the first mobile gaming version of Mario Kart, has stolen the show in the iPhone top charts for 2019. As revealed by Apple [via TheVerge], the Nintendo hit has scored the number one spot on the “Free iPhone Games” chart, blowing both Call of Duty: Mobile and Fortnite out of the water.

The most impressive thing here is that Mario Kart Tour didn’t even release until September, making the 2019 win even more of a blow to its competitors.

Sadly, we don’t know how many times the game has been downloaded, but if Call of Duty: Mobile came in fourth place, you have to imagine it’s a pretty massive number.

Here are the complete charts of free games for iPhone, as released by Apple:

  1. Mario Kart Tour
  2. Color Bump 3D
  3. aquapark.io
  4. Call of Duty: Mobile
  5. BitLife – Life Simulator
  6. Polysphere – art of puzzle
  7. Wordscapes
  8. Fortnite
  9. Roller Splat!
  10. AMAZE!!

Having Mario Kart Tour might be a win for longstanding fans of the franchise, but it seems that the mobile title isn’t going to come cheap for those wishing to unlock all the features the game has to offer.

As confirmed by the house of Mazza, you can purchase a subscription to what’s being called the Gold Pass for the mobile title. If you subscribe, the Pass will allow you to race in tours to get yourself some in-game gifts, unlock in-game badges and – perhaps most controversially – to unlock 200cc mode. Yes. You have to pay a monthly fee to unlock 200cc mode.

The bad news is that to get the Gold Pass you’ll need to fork out $4.99 USD a month. Considering you can pick up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch for around $40 (with a little luck), you might be better off just adding the game to your Switch library.
