Marvel’s Avengers Actually Does Have Microtransactions

Thanks to E3 2019 the world got its first look at the upcoming Square Enix game, Marvel’s Avengers.

The title, which will be releasing in 2020, definitely caught the interest of the internet, especially when it was announced that loot boxes and pay-to-win mechanics weren’t going to be a part of it.

However, it seems Square Enix was playing a little bit of a game with that statement, as the upcoming title still contains microtransactions, albeit not pay-to-win ones.

Crystal Dynamics lead creative director Shaun Escayg said [via IGN]: “There will be custom outfits that you can purchase in microtransactions.”

Vincent Napoli, the game’s lead combat designer added: “There are other aesthetic ways to customize your player card and your player experience, but there is nothing that affects the gameplay.”

Not much more information was given other than that, but it’s sad news for people who wanted the complete Marvel’s Avengers experience without having to pay any more than the cost of the game itself.

Square Enix has also confirmed that, thanks to a partnership with Sony, PlayStation 4 players of the game will be able to nab themselves some exclusive content.

Speaking rather vaguely on the matter during the conference, Square Enix said “special surprises” await PlayStation 4 users, which will be part of a larger partnership with PlayStation.

Along with these surprises, PS4 gamers will also get “unique benefits,” suggesting the extra content won’t be cosmetic only.

Square Enix said its partnership with Sony will kick off with early access to the game’s upcoming beta.
