Eidos Montreal is making a Guardians of the Galaxy game and it’s set to release this year.
The studio is known for its work on Marvel’s Avengers, Deus Ex and the rebooted Tomb Raider games. In its new title, you’ll be able to play as Peter Quill, the iconic Star Lord. You’ll team up with the rest of the crew, including Rocket, Gamora, Drax, and Groot. Other iconic characters from the films, like Mantis, also show up.
The work is entirely original, taking inspiration from the comics and the movies but making it entirely its own thing. Aside from Rocket Raccoon and Groot, the Guardians all look unique from their previous depictions. Of course, their witty banter takes centre stage with quick writing and excellent voice acting throughout.
It’s a third-person action shooter, all playable in single-player. There are no multiplayer MMO shenanigans like the studio experimented with in its Avengers title. There seems to be some degree of player choice with dialogue options showing up in the gameplay demo. Characters will remember what you say, potentially affecting your team dynamic as you progress through the game.
“I need a hero!”
You’ll lead the Guardians across the galaxy, exploring new planets and fighting some extraordinary aliens. While you play as Peter Quill, you can pass orders on to your fellow Guardians during combat. It reminds us of the combat in Final Fantasy XV
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Guardians experience without a banging soundtrack to go along with it. The reveal trailer has the excellent Bonnie Tyler narrating it, and the gameplay also has some excellent 70s and 80s icons to listen to while slaying aliens.

Here’s hoping that the Guardians of the Galaxy game is more successful than Eidos’s last Marvel experiment. It’s set to release on 26th October 2021, so not long to wait at all!
