Xbox chief Phil Spencer has stated that Microsoft is “building them as fast as we can” when referring to the production of further Xbox Series X|S consoles to meet demand.
In an interview with AMD’s Lisa Su (thanks, IGN), Phil Spencer spoke about the challenges of meeting the high demand of the new-gen console.

Since the Xbox Series X|S launched on November 10th 2020 worldwide, unless you pre-ordered a console as soon as orders went live, the chances are that you are still without Microsoft’s latest machine(s).
The shortage of supply is a worldwide issue shared with Sony’s PlayStation 5, with most retailers (at the time of writing) all being out of stock.
The current COVID-19 pandemic that is still plaguing our planet has had a major impact on all of our lives both personally and economically, and of course it’s had an effect on console production and distribution.

However even without the pandemic the chances are that consoles would have sold out regardless, especially when launching so close to Christmas.
I remember when the Xbox 360 launched back in November of 2005 and they sold out too and if it wasn’t for the fact that I worked at a video game retailer, I probably wouldn’t have been able to acquire one.

So when Phil Spencer was reflecting on the launch of the Xbox Series X|S in 2020, he said: “We got the consoles launched and we wished we had more of them, we’re selling out too quickly.”
Spencer continued: “I get some people [saying], ‘Why didn’t you build more, why didn’t you start earlier, why didn’t you ship them earlier?’ I mean all of those things, and it is really just down to physics and engineering,
“We’re not holding them back, we’re building them as fast as we can, we have all of the assembly lines going,” Spencer added.

Personally I’m saving up for my new-gen consoles right now, so if both Microsoft and Sony can create enough stock to meet demand by the time I’ve raised up enough cash for my Xbox Series X and PS5, it would be greatly appreciated.
