Minecraft Is YouTube’s Most Watched Video Game Of 2020

It’s been revealed that Minecraft is officially YouTube’s most watched video game of 2020 – and by quite some margin.

Despite being over a decade old Minecraft is still one of the most popular video games to this day. It’s not only played by millions across the world but it’s also generated over 200 billion, yes BILLION views in 2020 alone.

To this day we continue to see amazing community creations and it’s near impossible not to go onto YouTube and see a Minecraft recommended video in one of its tabs. YouTubers like PewDiePie have also make the game more popular than ever with videos from top creators seeing millions upon millions of views.

2020 has been a troubling year to say the least with the global pandemic still looming, and it has resulted in many of us being stuck indoors at some point.

Times of isolation and quarantine during the pandemic have contributed to a sharp increase in streams on YouTube, with over 40 million active gaming creators.

YouTube Gaming, which debuted in 2018, has seen its most successful year in 2020 as revealed in a tweet highlighting the impressive numbers for this year.

In a tweet from the YouTube Gaming account the team celebrated the impressive platform viewing numbers.

We’re not saying the YouTube Gaming community is the best but wow it kind of is! 100 billion watch time hours?” said YouTube Gaming in the Tweet.

In the tweet it was also revealed the top five most-watched games of 2020 – and even with Roblox coming in with 75 billion views, it’s small in comparison to that of Minecraft.

The top five viewed video games on YouTube Gaming for 2020 are:

  • Minecraft (201 billion views)
  • Roblox (75 billion views)
  • Garena Free Fire (72 billion views)
  • Grand Theft Auto V (70 billion views)
  • Fortnite (67 billion views)

With COVID-19 vaccinations now rolling out in the wild it will be interesting to see the contrasting YouTube Gaming numbers at the end of 2021, as more and more people will presumably be able to once again return to “normality.”
