Microsoft Flight Simulator is already one of the most in-depth games out there. It not only allows players to experience the next best thing when it comes to aviation, but it also lets you travel an incredibly detailed virtual world.
Yet no matter how great one game might be, within the PC gaming community, talented modders are always looking at ways to make our favourite games even better.
This is where Bushtalk Radio comes into play. Bushtalk Radio aims to make Microsoft Flight Simulator more immersive than ever, and one such way is by turning it into a virtual guided tour.
The project is driven by a team of modders, and its community looks to add audio descriptions to over 800 Points of Interest in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
You could say that MFS can already be considered as a tour guide of sorts, as you travel the virtual skies searching for the wonders of the world. Yet, this experience could be even more enlightening if you had the voice of a tour guide providing facts on over 800 iconic landmarks.
Bushtalk Radio was created by a modder called Patrick, who recently spoke to Eurogamer on what they set out to achieve with this ambitious mod.
“When I heard that MSFS2020 would feature the whole world in amazing detail, I was instantly hooked,” said Patrick.
“Being stuck at home with no prospect of travel, I bought the game as a way to explore the world virtually. I wasn’t satisfied just flying over the beautiful scenery, I also wanted to learn.”
“I used Google Maps to look for landmarks that had interesting Wikipedia articles. I figured I could probably write a script to automate this. I was joined by a good friend and started coding in our free time.”
Patrick told Eurogamer how the community not only provides extra detail to Points of Interest across the world but also POIs that we may not know about.
The modders have a system in place which allows its community to curate and submit their own POI, as well as providing a location and a script which the mod team then converts into audio.
Allowing the community to provide their own suggested POI, Patrick said that it: “brings an exploration element as you never know what you might find,” which only adds an extra level of depth to the game.
