It’s been the worst-kept secret in gaming, but apparently Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale mode is about to drop. According to unnamed sources close to VideoGamesChronicle, the upcoming mode is “at least a few weeks away,” and is expected to be landing in early March.
Interesting, the publication goes on to claim that the mode, supposedly known as “Warzone,” will release as a standalone game for free, offering the option for players to “upgrade” to the full Modern Warfare game. For those who already own MW, it’ll be available via the currently-greyed out section of the game menu.
It’s definitely an interesting way to do it, and just like CoD: Mobile, it’s likely to bring in a lot of new players.
An official announcement on the supposed news is expected this week, which is when the marketing for Warzone is expected to be made public. Until then, take everything with a pinch of salt.
The first “official” hint that BR is headed our way comes straight from a new in-game cinematic that came with the Season Two update. This was then followed up with a Reddit leak, where a now-deleted user claims to have received a picture of a campaign advert for CoD Battle Royale.
The deleted post, which contained the following image, simply stated: “I found this image online. Not sure what it is. Possibly Battle Royale.”
A recent glitch which has caused the Warzone menu to load for some players has revealed the following additions to the game:
- Armor Plate Bundle
- Gas Mask
- Precision Airstrike
- Shield Turret
- Cluster Strike
- UAV
- Munitions Box
- Drop Kit Marker
Screenshots posted to social media also hint at the idea that in-game currency will be earned by completing missions, which then can be spent at the supply station.
We know Warzone is coming – just let the cat out of the bag officially, Activision!
