As revealed on both the Monster Hunter movie website and the Sony Pictures page, the new synopsis has left fans pretty upset as it doesn’t seem to reflect the canon of the beloved games.

The description reads as follows:

“Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity,” reads the description. “When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her elite unit are transported through a portal from our world to a new world, they are in for the shock of their lives.

“In her desperate attempt to get home, the brave lieutenant encounters a mysterious hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills have allowed him to survive in this hostile land. Faced with relentless and terrifying attacks from the monsters, the warriors team up to fight back and find a way home.”

Sounds like a fair enough action movie plot, right? Well, not if you’re a Monster Hunter fan.

A tweet by Gaijinhunter has gained traction after commenting on the synopsis’ lack of insight into the world of the games.

They tweeted: “How are they going to explain that a semi-automatic rifle won’t hurt a monster but Dual Blades will? “Survival against the monsters” is literally against the story DNA of MH lol. I guess Capcom just gave them freedom to do whatever.”

They’re not the only one taking issue with the unreleased movie, as others have questioned not just the story but also the casting, with some gamers upset at Milla Jovovich in the starring role.

Gamers might be tentatively concerned about Monster Hunter, but let’s wait until we can see it before we judge.

Monster Hunter is written and directed by Paul W.S Anderson. The main cast includes Resident Evil’s Milla Jovovich, along with Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman.

Monster Hunter is due to release sometime in 2021.
