Nacon has acquired The Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer in a deal worth €53 million. This is the biggest “external growth” yet for Nacon.
This now means that Daedalic Entertainment is a first-party Nacon studio. In terms of UK and US currency, the €53 million roughly converts to around £44 million/$60 million. Can you imagine all the precious rings that could be bought with that kind of money?
Being the “biggest external growth yet for Nacon,” this is also a big move for the company in terms of wanting to make a bigger impact within the video game industry.
However, this not only means that Nacon owns the rights to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. But also any upcoming titles on the horizon. Furthermore, with the financial & marketing clout that Nacon brings to the table, it should be an interesting time ahead for Daedalic.
This could be big for Daedalic
In the press release provided, it is also confirmed that Carsten Fichtelmann (Founder and CEO) as well as Stephan Harms (COO) will continue to run Daedalic Entertainment. Nacon’s acquisition is expected to be finalised later this year.
“We knew, through our current collaboration on Gollum, that NACON and Daedalic share the same values and the same objectives to deliver unique experiences to gamers,” said Alain Falc, chairman and CEO of Nacon “Therefore, it seemed logical to go further together and we’re extremely happy of this acquisition. It represents a significant step in Nacon’s strategy.”
The deal could expand Daedalic’s potential
“Daedalic Entertainment has established itself as a publisher and developer of exceptional games across various genres and on all relevant platforms and has cemented that position globally,” said Carsten Fichtelmann.
He continued: “Together with Nacon, we are now taking the next step to further develop our catalogue of games created by our own team as well as many incredible indie studios. We are looking back at a trusting and cooperative collaboration on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and forward to an even brighter future together.”
