Netflix And CD Projekt Red Announce Cyberpunk 2077 Anime

CD Projekt Red has just revealed that an anime series is in the words for Cyberpunk 2077. Entitled Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the show will come from a collaboration between TRIGGER and CD Projekt Red.

The series will be set in the world of Cyberpunk, Night City, but will focus on characters and stories that won’t be explored in the upcoming game. It aims to land on the streaming platform in 2022.

Over on the TRIGGER website, a press release states [translated]: “TRIGGER’s production staff is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (representative work: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promea), Deputy Director Masahiko Otsuka (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Promea), and character design by You Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia, BNA Bee N)・A) and Yuto Kaneko (Little Witch Academia, Kill la Kill), Hiromi Wakabayashi (Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Promea) as creative director, Yoshihiro Usa (SSSS.GRIDMAN, Promea) as producer series composition, and Yoshidai Usa script. Masahiko Otsuka is in charge.

“Also, Akira Yamaoka, who is known for the Silent Hill series, will handle the production of this play.”

The show will be a spin-off series consisting of 10 episodes, and “follows the story of a boy who walked the outlaw mercenary while overcoming the difficulty of paying. It will be distributed by Netflix in 2022.”

The announcement was made during the Cyberpunk 2077 Night Wire event, which also showcased some new gameplay and a shiny new trailer.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release in November for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you buy a current-gen version of the game, it will be playable on both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, with a free update scheduled for later down the line.
