Netflix’s The Witcher Modelled Geralt’s Voice On The Games

Netflix’s The Witcher is set to be one of the biggest shows of the year and, though based on the books, fans of the games will definitely be pleased with a little fan-servicing when it comes to the main character, Geralt.

Although the CD Projekt Red actor, Doug Cockle, isn’t making an appearance in the Netflix show, it seems Henry Cavill, who’s playing the role of Geralt, is taking some inspiration from Cockle’s performance.

Those of you who’ve played The Witcher games will know that Cockle’s gravelly and pretty intimidating performance as Geralt is one in a million, but Cavill is seemingly doing a pretty spot-on version if the series’ trailers are anything to go by.

In a recent interview with IGN, Cavill suggested that he actually had a lot of control over the portrayal of Geralt, and decided against a British accent in favour of something more akin to the games.

“When I heard Doug Cockle’s incredible performance in The Witcher 3 – which I’ve heard time after time because I’ve played the games a lot – I realised that I could utilise something like that, and create [Geralt’s] stony exterior,” Cavill told the publication.

We already know that the show is going to follow the books more closely than the games, but if you were hoping to see the Geralt you know and love from the series then this is great news for you.

There’s now just a couple of weeks until the eight-episode series lands on the streaming platform, and if the trailers are anything to go by, we’re in for an absolute treat this Christmas.

Netflix’s The Witcher lands on December 20.
