A new Fable game has officially been revealed by Xbox, but is everything as it seems? Though we were all eagerly awaiting an announcement for Fable 4, the cinematic teaser trailer confirmed the next game is titled simply “Fable,” and now new rumours suggest it’s not a direct sequel, but instead an MMO.
The rumours were noted by VG247 and ResetEra, where it was noticed that a French journalist had correctly predicted every single game announcement from the July Xbox Games Showcase. The journalist tweeted the news before the show, suggesting they’ve got some pretty impressive insider knowledge. Check out the tweets below.
Here’s where things get serious though, as the journalist listed the Fable announcement as an MMO. They followed up writing [translated]: “And for the greatest happiness of @SireGoupil : a game in the world of FABLE. But in MMO (sorry, not FABLE 4)”
Of course, this doesn’t prove anything, but considering how spot-on the journalist’s previous leaks were, it’s hard to imagine that there’s nothing to the claim.
It’s also raised a few eyebrows that the Fable reveal seems to be for a game called Fable and not Fable 4. This is something we often see with remakes and reboots, so there’s still the possibility that the game isn’t an MMO, but instead a reimagining of some sort. This is backed up by the trailer’s description, which calls it a “new beginning for the legendary franchise.”
As with all leaks and rumours, we’ll have to take it with a pinch of salt until verified. As for the trailer itself, the full description reads as follows: “Fable returns with a new beginning for the legendary franchise. Explore a land of fantastical creatures and wondrous places. Developed by Playground Games for Xbox Series X and Windows 10..”
