New Fallout 4 Mod Transforms Game Into A Fully Fledged Frightfest

It’s needless to say that there’s something inherently creepy about apocalyptic settings. However, thanks to a new Fallout 4 mod, the game has been transformed into a full-on horror experience [via Eurogamer].

Created by El Ha, “The Wilderness” is a massive mod that features eery, abandoned structures and a creepy main questline. While the mod doesn’t go out of its way to obscure the fact that it’s still Fallout 4, the addition of wild weather effects and an ominous soundtrack makes the whole aesthetic feel more sinister.

Of course, while all good horror films rely on building tension, The Wilderness has something more foreboding going on behind the scenes. From the get-go, you are informed that you should avoid “whatever is following you”, which immediately signifies that the player isn’t alone within this barren map.

If you’re familiar with the likes of Bloober’s Blair Witch, you’ll know what to expect from The Wilderness. While you’d think that the tropes of first-person horror games would be stale right now, this horror mod manages to make them into something special.

It’s worth mentioning that while Fallout 4 is an RPG shooter, El Ha does state that the mod has been created with “survival players in mind”. Therefore, you should probably think twice before going into this twisted tale all guns blazing.
