What's next for the Dog?

New Naughty Dog Job Listings Hint At Future Projects

Naughty Dog has wrapped up The Last of Us Part 2, and while multiplayer is apparently still coming in a standalone form, there’s “no plans” to work on any DLC for the game.

Still, all eyes are on the Dog to see what’s coming next from the AAA studio. Interestingly, it seems as though a new spate of job listings are hinting at the future for ND, and it’s definitely caught my eye.

The Sony studio is hiring for a number of new roles right now, some temporary and some permanent. Perhaps one of the most notable is the call for a “LEVEL / ENVIRONMENT DESIGNER (SINGLE PLAYER).”

The actual job listing doesn’t specify the game in question, but if The Last of Us’ next step really is multiplayer, then why would a single player environment designer be needed? Unless we’re not talking The Last of Us at all, which begs the question: what’s next?

Naughty Dog teases the prospect of future games in another listing, which states: “We are looking for talented animators to help us create compelling gameplay for our future project(s).” Meanwhile, several of the roles call for experience with motion capture animation, perhaps suggesting we’re looking at a more realistic game than, say, a return to Jak and Daxter.

Another eye-catching role is that of CHARACTER CONCEPT ARTIST, the description of which sounds a lot like a brand-new character is being created, with Naughty Dog’s “narrative-driven worlds” in mind. Though again, we don’t know for which IP.

Clearly we won’t know until we know, but it definitely looks as though something is a-brewing over at Naughty Dog. If you’re keen to apply for one of the biggest game studios in the world, check out the listing here.
