Yesterday, Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Switch model. However, while you’d expect Nintendo to dominate the trending section of Twitter, the announcement instead provided Sony’s discontinued PS Vita with some unintended publicity.

That’s right, thanks to Nintendo, gamers are currently discussing Sony’s beloved handheld console. So, why is the PS Vita a hot topic all of a sudden? Well, it’s all thanks to the fact that the new Switch uses the same OLED screen technology.
In case you’re unaware, OLED is a type of screen technology that boasts better colours and black levels. While Nintendo has only just decided to use an OLED in its new console, many fans have been quick to point out that the ten-year-old Vita console used the tech first.
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that while the original PS Vita did feature an OLED display, later versions of the handheld used a cheaper IPS LCD panel instead. While this decision was made to make the console more affordable, it was also partially due to Sony’s decision to move away from the technology.
Regardless of why it’s trending, it’s nice to see Sony’s discontinued portable getting some love. Sure, Nintendo still has the edge when it comes to handheld consoles. However, there’s something to be said about the PS Vita and the high-tech experience it originally facilitated.
