It’s claimed that a fourth Nintendo Switch model will be coming at some point in 2021. The heavily-speculated “Switch Pro” console has been rumoured for a while now, and now it finally seems as though there’s some truth to the idea.
Originally launching in 2017, the Switch has previously seen the launch of a slightly upgraded model with a better battery life as its second iteration. It’s also gone fully handheld with the Switch Lite for its third, and now number four might finally be the long-awaited Pro model.
The news comes from Bloomberg, where it’s alleged that the new iteration of the Nintendo Switch will feature “more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics.” Along with the new version of the console, Nintendo is also supposedly planning a stacked launch period of both first and third party titles. Bloomberg cites this as the reason why 2020 has been a pretty quiet year for the House of Mario.
Though the rumour is unconfirmed, it does align with a number of trademarks Nintendo has recently filed, specifically relating to The Legend of Zelda. The series’ 35th anniversary is coming in 2021, making it the perfect time to release a new slew of Switch remakes – and perhaps even a new Switch itself.
It’s speculated that Nintendo has big plans for both the Zelda and Mario franchises next year, so seeing a new console launch would definitely make a lot of sense. Earlier this month, an Amazon listing for The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword on Nintendo Switch was spotted by gamers before swiftly being pulled from the site.
As always with leaks and rumours, take this one with a pinch of salt for now. However, if you’re planning on picking up the next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and PS5, you might want to keep some money aside for a 2021 Nintendo Switch!
