It’s been way to long since we had a Splinter Cell game with the last being Splinter Cell: Blacklist from 2013, so to say the series is overdue a new instalment, is an understatement. However, after some very cool looking night vision goggle replicas became available to purchase via GameStop, it has re-started the ever turning wheels of speculation to spin once more. As cool as these $40 night vision goggles may be, which features “iconic lights and sounds from the videogames”, it’s another section of the item description that is the most interesting.
A section of the item description reads “For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top selling AAA+ titles, and the 10th RELEASE ON THE HORIZON, this is your fist chance to own Sam Fisher’s signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles.”

Now I’ve emphasised “10th release on the horizon” in the quote above, but as a Splinter Cell fan, I can only think of seven main entries, Splinter Cell (2002), Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell: Essentials, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Splinter Cell: Conviction and finally 2013’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Unless they’re taking into account any cameo appearances that Sam Fisher may have made?
Regardless, it’s the “on the horizon” quote that we should really take notice of, which seems to indicate that a new Splinter Cell game might just be “on the horizon”. If true, an announcement is more likely to happen next year, perhaps at E3. But while we wait another age for such an announcement, as least we can buy some sweet Splinter Cell goggles in the meantime.
