A new census will measure how diverse the UK games industry is. This is the second annual survey by Ukie on diversity.
Ukie has launched the second UK Games Industry Census to assess the diversity of the gaming workforce in the UK. Ukie is a not-for-profit trade body whose mission is: “to make the UK into the best place to make, sell and play games in the world.”
2020 diversity census results
Results from the 2020 diversity census revealed some interesting information:
- Workers in the UK games industry were from all around the world – 88 countries of origin were recorded
- 10% of people working in games were Black, Asian or minority ethnic (BAME) in 2020 – slightly higher than the UK working population
- A huge 70% of people working in the UK games industry were male – only 28% workers were female and 2% are non-binary
- 21% of people working in games were LGBTQ+ – much higher than the known working population
- 31% of workers had depression or anxiety and 21% of workers had a chronic health condition – both much higher than the national average for the working population

If you work in the UK games industry and want to take part, you can do so in two ways.
- Individual games industry workers and small businesses (fewer than 20 employees) can follow this link to fill out the census directly.
- Games companies with more than 20 employees can use this link to request a census pack.
