New Tomb Raider Movie Will Adapt Last Two Games Of Rebooted Trilogy

2018’s Tomb Raider movie reboot was met with…mixed reviews, but it seems we haven’t seen the last of Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft. According to a new report from Geekvibesnation, a sequel is already on the cards for the future.

According to the publication, filming for the next Tomb Raider adventure will begin in April of this year, this time being directed by Ben Wheatley. Again, the movie will star Vikander as Lara Croft, and the plot will reportedly blend parts of the final two games in the rebooted Square Enix trilogy.

Some plot elements of Rise of the Tomb Raider will be present, and there’ll also be a focus on the final game in the trilogy: Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Just like in the games, “supernatural” elements have also been teased. The movie is apparently being called Tomb Raider 2, which admittedly, is very confusing for longstanding fans of the video game franchise.

As expected, Vikander and the crew will be shooting in some pretty exotic locations according to the reports. These include South Africa, Beijing , Finland and England.

Although 2018’s Tomb Raider definitely has a lot of die-hard fans, there’s also a lot of people out there who were left sorely disappointed in the action flick.

As of the time of writing, the movie has a score of 53% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomato-Meter, with an audience score of 55%. However, that’s still a lot better than Lara Croft Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider has a score of just 20% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomato-Meter, with an audience score of 47%.

Let’s hope that the upcoming Tomb Raider 2 can do what the Netflix’s The Witcher or Detective Pikachu have done for video game-related shows and movies.

Tomb Raider 2 is expected to be dropping in March 2021.
