Valheim’s modding community is a force to be reckoned with. From playable in-game Game Boy emulators to swarms of killer trees, modders are bringing heaps of content to the survival sim. However, Valheim VR is a mod that transforms the game into a VR experience that lets players explore Nordic limbo in their avatar shoes.
Valheim VR builds upon the idea of giving the game a first-person perspective, which was previously implemented into the game through another mod [via ScreenRant].
However, VR mode makes Valheim even more immersive, creating a unique and slightly unsettling experience. The idea of traversing the harrowing world of Valheim in VR gives me chills, especially when you consider how murderous the game is.
Created by manicmoose99, the Valheim VR mod is compatible with SteamVR and OpenVR. The mod’s Nexusmods page gives us a video demo of what to expect from the VR mode, demonstrating things with combat and building. Check it out above!
Admittedly, placing down objects in VR looks a little finicky. However, the overall experience almost looks like it was designed for virtual reality.
Just like many other Valheim mods, you’ll need to install the BepInExPack Valheim framework, which makes the whole affair possible.
The project’s page also contains step-by-step instructions to help you get things up and running. While you’re at it, you should also check out Valheim Plus, a host of quality of life improvements that enhances Valheim’s base experience.
Unlike many other Valheim mods, the game’s VR mode should also work on multiplayer servers. That being said, it’s probably best to get used to the game’s newfound VR controls first before jumping into a ruthless online server.
