Rockstar’s Next Game Doesn’t Sound Like GTA 6 Or Bully 2

Rockstar Games is hiring – but it doesn’t sound like it’s for a familiar IP. As shared to Reddit, a series of new job listings confirm the studio is gearing up with a “next-gen” project – and the specifics are pretty confusing.

There’s quite a few job listings from Rockstar, but the ones we’re looking at are for Rockstar Toronto. The branch of the company is specifically seeking a “a senior graphics programmer to help breathe life, realism and fun into our next-generation games.”

Straight from the (RDR2) horse’s mouth: Rockstar Games is officially working on a game for the PlayStation 5 and next Xbox, Hooray!

This is where it starts to get interesting though, as one of the jobs specifies what a part of the role would entail. The listing explains the ideal candidate would have “an obsessive eye for detail and drapery in respect of garments of all types, and an acute awareness of how fabrics and materials age and degrade over time.”

The website also notes the team is “looking for someone with a deep appreciation of the history and cultural importance which clothing plays in society; from past eras to modern, global street styles and trends.”

Errrrrm…huh? I don’t know about you, but that sounds more like a period-based game like Assassin’s Creed rather than Grand Theft Auto 6.

Though a new IP from Rockstar would be a welcome surprise, it would be a very unprecedented move to not be releasing GTA 6 as the next game from the company. Considering just how much GTA 5 has made in its lifecycle, Rockstar is sitting on a verifiable cash cow.

Last year we heard rumours that GTA 6 would take place in many different cities in the 1970s and 1980s. If this is true, it could potentially explain the job listings, but it’s definitely very mysterious.

I guess we’ll wait until we hear from you, Rockstar!
