A Nier Automata anime adaptation was officially revealed today at a live stream celebrating the game’s fifth anniversary.
Nier Automata, a sequel to the cult classic Nier, is celebrating its fifth anniversary today. To celebrate, a livestream was held where creator Yoko Taro discussed the game with producer Yosuke Saito, and composer Keiichi Okabe. Mostly the stream was filled with smaller details and games.
The end of the stream revealed the rumoured Nier Automata anime officially. A short teaser was shown off, but no actual animation was included in the trailer. So it’s likely still early days for the anime. There is an official website you can check out, though it is in Japanese. And there’s a Twitter for the anime too.
Because not much was shown with the reveal, it is unclear how the anime will handle the story of Nier Automata. One of the main aspects of the game is the fact that it sort of requires multiple playthroughs.
This is mostly only the case for the first two routes. But playing as various characters does give you different perspectives on the story. And certain narrative beats are only revealed in specific routes. So it will be interesting to see how the anime handles this.
Aside from the anime announcement, there were a couple of smaller merchandise reveals too. One is a Nier Automata themed turntable, and a set of YoRHa wireless earbuds. And a Nier Automata themed PC case was also shown off. As well as a variety of other typical bits of merch, like plushes and keychains.
