Nintendo denies reports that a new 4K Switch console will release after the newly announced OLED model. But there is a twist to the tale.
Before the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) was officially revealed, rumors and speculation were rampant across the internet that a snazzy, new 4K Switch console was on the way.
Rumours of the “Switch Pro” were everywhere and it might have been safe to assume that those rumors would stop with the announcement of the OLED model. However, that seems not to be the case.
The most recent rumours have even resulted in Nintendo releasing a short statement to clarify that a 4K “Switch Pro” isn’t on the way. Or at least just yet.
Nintendo has released a statement
The statement is in response to an article from Bloomberg, which revealed that the OLED Switch only cost $10 more to manufacture than the original Switch console. This is despite the OLED Switch charging an increase of £30/$50 RRP.
Nintendo of Japan released the following statement on Twitter:
“A news report on July 15, 2021(JST) claimed that the profit margin of the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) would increase compared to the Nintendo Switch. To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to make clear that the claim is incorrect.”

A follow-up tweet continued: “We also want to clarify that we just announced that Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will launch in October 2021, and have no plans for launching any other model at this time.”

We could take Nintendo’s word that they have no plans to release another console after the OLED model. However, I think we all notice the words that Nintendo has “no plans for launching any other model at this time.”
We know Nintendo will release another Switch
This is Nintendo we’re talking about here and they love to release updated versions of its best-selling consoles. But it would be financially crippling if it said there are plans on releasing another Switch after the OLED model. Why would anyone pre-order the new console if that was the case?
We know that Nintendo will likely release a 4K console, and that’s fine. The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will release on October 8th this year.
