Rumours that 11 games studios have received Switch 4K development kits have been quickly denied by Nintendo.
We know that there is a new version of the beloved Nintendo Switch coming – the OLED:
However, there’s rumoured to be another version of the Switch in the works – the 4K.
Bloomberg has published a recent report about game studios being provided with early versions of the new Switch, in order to begin development of new games for the platform. It claims that a junior employee at the game studio Zynga had confirmed the rumour.
Nintendo rarely responds to speculation, but faced with this latest rumour the company has Tweeted a strongly worded statement:
‘A news report on Sept. 30, 2021(JST) falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support,’ the tweet reads. ‘To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true.
Nintendo then reaffirms that the Switch OLED is the only new model that the company has plans to release. It’s due out at the end of this week on October 8th.
We can still dream…
A spokesperson at Zynga also denied the rumour: “To clarify, Zynga does not have a 4K developer kit from Nintendo”
Videogames Chronicle has reported about the history of the 4K Switch rumour – it’s been rumbling along since 2018. Bloomberg has apparently predicted that the 4K Switch will be out in 2022 at the earliest. However, Nintendo denies this too, stating:
“We also want to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, which will launch on October 8, 2021”
