A Nintendo insider has claimed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 probably isn’t coming till Spring 2022.
According to Zippo, a reliable industry leaker, the sequel to BOTW has been hit hard by the ongoing pandemic. In a recent blog post revealing Nintendo’s plans for the year ahead, Zippo delved into how the pandemic has affected the next big Zelda game:
“If any Nintendo game was affected by the pandemic, it was this one. From what I heard, the game is nearing completion, but a release by the end of the year just isn’t seeming feasible. The game needs a bit more time, and with the last year in mind, that’s entirely understandable.”
Zippo then goes on to speculate about Nintendo’s plans in the interim, which they believe involves some pretty detailed E3 announcements:
“What I foresee Nintendo doing at E3 is finally busting down the doors on the game and giving fans and the press tons of details on it, with a “Spring 2022” date attached to it. But that’s just my prediction on it.”
While this leak is sure to disappoint many Zelda fans, some good news is contained within the insider’s blog! Zippo also claims that a new 2D Metroid game for Switch “two hundred percent exists” and has been fully developed. The blog also backs up claims that a new Donkey Kong is being created by the Super Mario Odyssey team.
It’s worth pointing out that while Zippo is a reliable insider source, the details in their blog haven’t been verified. Therefore, you should probably take the information with a grain of salt for now.
That being said, it does seem likely that we’ll hear more about BOTW2 soon. After all, Nintendo’s last update on the game was way back in 2019!
