While Sony and Microsoft were busy selling out their brand spanking new next-gen consoles, Nintendo was busy outselling their biggest competitors during their launch month. Yes, despite the odds, the Nintendo Switch outsold both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in their November launch month.

According to reports from NDP Group, a world leader in market research, Nintendo impressively outsold the two next-gen consoles (or three, if you count Xbox Series X|S as two) even during the biggest launch window for both Sony and Microsoft.
NDP reported that in the United States a whopping $7 billion products were sold relating to video games in the month of November 2020, which is a new record for the industry.
Mat Piscatella, the Executive Director and Video Game Industry Advisor for the NDP Group revealed in a series of tweets that the record-breaking $7 billion milestone was 35% up in November of 2019.
Piscatella also confirms that the PS5 achieved the highest launch month unit and dollar sales for a video games console in US history. This beat the previous record held by the PS4 launch of November 2013.
However Piscatella also reveals that despite the impressive US dollars generated by the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the Nintendo Switch has very consistently been the ābest-selling hardware platform in units sold for a record 24 consecutive months.ā Go Nintendo!
So in a nutshell while consumers across the world have failed in getting their hands on a next-gen console, the Nintendo Switch has been subtly sitting on the shelf successfully waiting for consumers to buy the only other in-demand console in stock
Personally Iām very happy that the Nintendo Switch has still sold incredibly well despite the huge launches of the next-gen consoles.
Sure the Switch isnāt as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, but it’s a fantastic console with a great library of quality games that you can play anywhere.
Itās certainly great for the industry to see all three main consoles being so well received even in times of financial hardship as gaming has always been a great distraction from the troubles of the outside world.
