The Entertainment Software Rating Board has rated Oddworld: Soulstorm for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Could the game be heading to Xbox consoles?
Spotted by Gematsu, the latest Oddworld adventure was recently rated by the ESRB for PC, PlayStation and Xbox in Brazil. While the game is scheduled to release physically on PlayStation consoles this July, an Xbox release of the game has yet to be announced.
At the moment, Oddworld: Soulstorm is a PlayStation console exclusive, with the game also being available on PC via the Epic Game Store. While no official announcements have been made regarding an Xbox release, the first Oddworld remake, New ‘n’ Tasty, arrived on Xbox a year after its PlayStation debut.
So, what could Soulstorm’s cross-platform release mean for the series? Well, it provides fans with some reassurance that the series isn’t PlayStation exclusive. However, it also means that the game could make its way to Xbox Game Pass, meaning subscribers will be able to visit the realm of Oddworld for free.
It’s also worth mentioning that while there’s no evidence that the game will also head to Nintendo Switch, the handheld already has a bounty of physical Oddworld games available for it. From remastered versions of Munch’s Oddysee to Just Add Water’s take on Abe’s Oddysee, the Switch is a great way to experience the iconic series.
Earlier this year, we reviewed Oddworld: Soulstorm, describing it as an “experimental” take on a classic sequel. While the game is a little rough around the edges, it’s definitely worth picking up if you are an Oddworld fan.
Hopefully, Oddworld inhabitants reveals its cross-platform intentions soon. While Soulstorm’s Xbox debut hasn’t been officially confirmed, the ESRB has potentially let the Scrab out of the bag.
