Overwatch 2 adds fishing mini-game on new map

Overwatch 2 will see a lot of upcoming changes in the next few seasons but perhaps the most unexpected comes in the form of a fishing mini-game.

A new map is coming to Overwatch 2 on February 7 (the start of Season 3) – an ice-filled landscape known as Antarctic Peninsula. As well as coming with more lore for ice queen, Mei, it is also a Control map made specifically to cater to the newest 5v5 mode.

Teach a man to fish

However another first for the game is adding an interactive feature to the map. Players can now choose to fish (although not traditionally) in a small fishing hole. Instead, the water will respond to your attacks, causing fish to fly out before getting killed by your hero. In a clip released by Overwatch Twitter, it’s safe to assume that certain heroes will be better at the mini-game than others.

Whether or not the enemy team will allow you time to murder the local wildlife is another story entirely. However, between the bulletproof penguins that will be dotted across this map and the hidden secrets, there is plenty to do. Not to mention seeing the Northern Lights dancing across the sky.

Season 3 will also see the start of the removal of map pools. Antarctic Peninsula will be going live alongside the Hollywood and Watchpoint: Gibraltar to kick off the season. “We aimed to provide a bit of freshness each season and concentrate the number of maps that people were playing, however player sentiment around map pools was pretty low, the map roster doesn’t have enough maps where we truly need them, and the impact they had on seasonal identity was fairly low” said a blog post posted by Blizzard

So there you have it! A new map, bulletproof penguins and a fishing mini-game set for Season 3. Let us know how you feel about these additions across our social media platforms.
