The king of YouTube, PewDiePie, has spoken about The Last of Us Part 2 after completing the game for his channel. Pewds, who completed a Let’s Play of the original game back in 2013 (the first episode of which now has over 20 million views), had fun playing the sequel, but criticised the Naughty Dog epic for its storytelling.

After completing the game, he told viewers: “What a journey. It was not the game we expected. It was not the game many people wanted…
“I think everything was a mess. So I didn’t have much expectations after that…I think the game had a lot of potential to be really good. It could have been a 10/10 because it really shines in so many things…

“If they just changed the order of things, I think it would be better. And maybe tighten up some parts. I guess I would rather play this game than a really mediocre game, even though I really, really didn’t like it.”
Pewds made no secret of his disenchantment with the game as he played through with his audience. During his time with Ellie, Joel and Abby, Pewds frequently forgot the names of other characters, criticising them for being bland and forgettable (he spent a good chunk of time thinking Jesse was called Eugene, another character who’s mentioned at the beginning but who we never meet).

PewDiePie’s opinions are definitely valid though, as he’s not the first person to come down hard on the follow-up to one of the highest-rated games of all time. The Last of Us Part 2 has seen heavy review bombing online, with lots of players unhappy with both the storyline and the characters.
Personally I really loved the game, though it definitely has it flaws (read my full review here).
The Last of Us Part 2 is definitely going to stick as being one of the most controversial games of all time!
