A new study from Variety claims that the undisputed champion of YouTube, PewDiePie, is more popular amongst male Gen-Z-ers than the likes of LeBron James. Naturally, PDP has responded to the claims in classic PDP fashion: by making a joke about it.
Pewds retweeted the article and quipped: “People like Lebron James??”
You could argue that American basketball player LeBron James has less of a mass appeal than Pewds. Here in the UK, basketball is about as popular as rounders. We like cricket and cricket only, obviously.
One Twitter user summed this up pretty succinctly, writing: “That’s because he makes content that they enjoy but as much as people like LeBron James he’s in a sport that while popular isn’t for everyone and like with most sports if he’s not on your team most of the time people don’t care about them.”
According to the study from Variety, Pewds and Lebron James have the “same level of name recognition (95%) among Gen Z males, but more of them (62%) have a favorable view of PewDiePie than James (55%).”
Other celebrities who Pewds bested in the figures include Elon Musk and Steph Curry.

In other PewDiePie news, the star is about to launch another video game bearing his image. Entitled “PewDiePie’s Pixelings,” the mobile game features a very beardy Pewds and some very familiar characters if you’ve ever played a PDP game before.
The TLDR for the titles reads as follows: “•Collect & upgrade cute and quirky Pixelings
” •Join PewDiePie on a memorable & quest across Pixeland
” •Compete against other players in real-time PvP matches
” •Experience a unique, fluid combat system
” •Enjoy a meme-tastic storyline set in PewDiePie’s Pixelverse (Tuber Simulator, Legend of the Brofist)
“•Join guilds and chat with your friends!”
