EDIT: Since the time of writing, Amazon has told VGC that the PS5 listing price is an “error.” Original story below.
The PlayStation 5 has been spotted on Amazon UK, just a day before Sony’s big PS5 reveal event, but it’s unclear if this is a leak or merely just a placeholder from the online retailer.
The news comes via known Twitter leaker Wario64, who shared a screenshot of the PS5 on Amazon, where it was supposedly being listed under the dummy name ‘2020 Dummy ASIN Sony PS5 1 2TB.’
At the time of writing, I wasn’t able to find the listing myself, but the screenshots are available in the tweet below.
As you can see, the listing seems to show a 2TB PlayStation 5 – something which is, right now, unannounced by Sony. There’s also the glaring issue of PRICE here (!!) as the listing shows the PS5 is up for pre-order at £599.99 GBP, which is approximately $765 USD. Yikes.
Of course, we don’t know whether this is a placeholder price, or if it’s an accidental leak ahead of Sony’s big reveal show tomorrow, but hopefully we won’t have long to wait to find out! Either way, take it with a pinch of salt for now.
Other leaks spotted on Amazon include a few more dummy names for unannounced games, including ‘Bethesda Game 6,’ which can’t actually be The Elder Scrolls 6, as it’s listed for PlayStation 4…
There’s actually a number of funky-looking things about the dummy listings, which might mean that Amazon isn’t actually revealing unannounced games, but instead is preparing for what they might be expecting at tomorrow’s show.
Either way, take with a pinch of salt and all that. If you’re interested, you can check out more on the dummy placeholders and the supposed leaks so far thanks to this Reddit thread.
The PlayStation 5 games show, entitled ‘The Future of Gaming,’ will be streamed from 9pm UK time tomorrow, June 8.
