PlayStation has confirmed it’s giving away free PSVR camera adapters ahead of the launch of the PS5.
As we transition into the new console generation next month, questions have been asked in regards to the compatibility of the PlayStation 4’s PSVR headset being used on PlayStation 5.

We do know that the PSVR headset for the PS4 will play on the PlayStation 5, but surely all you need to do is buy the new PS5 HD camera? Well unfortunately – and quite oddly – that is not the case.
Even though the new HD camera will of course work on the PlayStation 5, it’s not currently compatible with the current PSVR headset, which seems to be quite the oversight by Sony.

So the only way to use the current PSVR headset on PlayStation 5 is by using the PS4 camera, but in order to do so you’ll need an additional adapter for your camera.
As a workaround for this Sony have developed an adapter so that the PlayStation 4 camera will work on the next-gen console with PSVR. Thankfully these adapters will be free as long as you own a PSVR headset and the forthcoming PlayStation 5 console.
To make a request for the free PlayStation camera adapter you must visit the dedicated website page and you must have the PSVR headset serial number at hand. As you can imagine, requests for the adapter have been flooding the website, so if you fail to connect just try again later.
Once you have provided the serial number for your PSVR headset, you then have to provide the serial number from your PlayStation 5 console. Adapters are limited to one-per-household for obvious reasons and will ship worldwide.

The PlayStation 5 will release on November 12th for North America and Australia, then for the rest of the world on the 19th.
