PlayStation Party Chat Update Being ‘Reconsidered’ By Sony

Following criticism from fans, Sony is looking to reconsider recent changes made to the PlayStation Party Chat features in the near future.

The recent 8.00 update for the PlayStation 4 made a number of changes, mostly for the better, but there were some changes that haven’t gone down too well with many fans.

Perhaps most notable was a notification which had fans worried that Sony could be listening-in on your private conversations while in a PS4 Party Chat.

However, that was quickly debunked by Sony, who quickly issued a statement following the uproar. Not exactly a tool for spying, the feature will instead allow players to grass you up by capturing your incriminating words for easy reporting to Sony.

Although that’s seemingly now done and dusted, that wasn’t the only issue getting gamers’ goats with Party Chat.

Another Party Chat feature that fans are not happy with is the difficulty faced when speaking to friends while on PS4.

Prior to the 8.00 update, you could simply drop in and drop out of a friend’s Party Chat as you pleased.  However, in order to chat to your friends in a party, you must now be added to the messaging group with each other before you get chatting away.  I know it’s not a massive hurdle to get over, but the fact that they’ve added an unnecessary hurdle to what worked fine to begin with, is never a bonus in my book.

Thankfully, following fan feedback, Sony has responded and the company seems to be on the case.

“Hey folks – just wanted to let you know that we’re looking into your feedback on the recent changes to Parties on PS4,” tweeted the official PlayStation account. “Thanks for speaking up – we’ll keep you posted.”

Although there’s no word on when a new update might come and fix this mess-up, at least we know something’s in the works.
