PlayStation 5 Feature Will Protect You From Spoilers

Sony has confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 5 will protect you from spoilers if you’re using its Create function.

The Create function will allow you to share screenshots of your game to various external services and to your party, but what happens if you share the ending of Miles Morales when your buddy is only at the beginning? Don’t worry – Sony’s already figured it out.

As explained during the most-recent State of Play, you’ll receive a warning if you’re about to open a screenshot which depicts something further along in the game than you are. It’s a built-in spoiler warning (though sadly it won’t save you from spoilers once you’ve turned the console off and log into Twitter).

On the developer side of things, the feature will also give game creators the chance to register important parts of their games which can then be flagged to protect you from spoilers. Nifty!

The spoiler-free gaming doesn’t end there though, as PlayStation Plus subscribers will also get the chance to seek advice when they get stuck in a game – all through the PS5 itself. The help tool will be supported by the game’s developers, and will offer you a chance to watch tutorials if you need help. Expect tips, guides and general advice without a) having to boot up YouTube on your phone and b) without worrying about potential spoilers.

While it’s a little disappointing to see a feature designed with accessibility in mind being locked behind the paywall of PS Plus subscription, it’s still a nice step in the right direction. Thanks, Sony!

The PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of £359.99 GBP/$399.99 USD, and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc drive will be available for an RRP of £449.99 GBP/$499.99 USD.

Both editions of PS5 will roll out in select markets including North America and Japan on November 12, followed by Europe and additional regions on November 19.
