A seemingly reliable source has ‘confirmed’ via Twitter that Nintendo plans to release remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on Nintendo Switch this year.
Centro Pokémon LEAKS claims to have information from an unnamed inside source, suggesting that the classic DS Pokemon games are being remade to celebrate Pokemon’s 25th anniversary. In a post published on its website, Centro Pokémon states the following:
“Centro Pokémon can confirm that, according to sources close to the company, remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, originally released in 2006 for Nintendo DS, are in development for Nintendo Switch.” (Translated from Spanish)
Further fuel was added to the rumour fire after it was spotted by pokexperto.net that Nintendo had also activated diamondpearl.pokemon.com as a subdomain on 12th January. The domain was later disabled, but it’s still providing fans with a glimmer of hope that the rumours might be true.
It is claimed that the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes will be revealed during a February Nintendo Direct, with a release date of 2021.
While of course these claims are nothing but rumours at this stage, it would make sense for Nintendo to release some sort of celebratory game for the 25th anniversary. Remaking Diamond and Pearl also makes a ton of sense. Other classic Pokemon titles have received a lick of remastered paint long before now.
Nintendo also announced this week that it is reprinting original cards from the Pokemon Trading Card Game, as well as teaming up with pop singer Katy Perry for some sort of celebrative collab.
The release date for the upcoming Pokemon Snap game was also unveiled this week. Nintendo confirmed that the Pokemon paparazzi sim would be arriving on April 30, 2021.
This is sure to be a busy year for Pokemon and Nintendo fans alike. It’ll be interesting to see what other surprises Nintendo has up its sleeve for throughout the year!
Are you looking forward to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes and what else would you like to see from Nintendo this year?
