The PS5 may not be released to the general public in North America, Australia and New Zealand until tomorrow (November 12), however we already have reports of a console-breaking flaw.
At this time we are very sad to report that a PlayStation 5 console provided to YouTuber Jeremy Penter a.k.a AngryCentaurGaming has lost its life.
Penter, of the YouTube channel known as ACG, announced the news via Twitter page, writing: “At this time my PS5 is 100% dead.“
It seems that the issue was caused after the console kept rebuilding storage, an issue that I’ve encountered when I’ve left my PS4 on Rest Mode.
“I was having the storage rebuild issues others reported but mine escalated to full errors and network issues/boot. Sony and I were working through troubleshooting when it died completely. So at this time I will be moving content around…” tweeted Penter.
However it seems that Jeremy Penter is not the only one that has encountered this issue as Jeff Gerstmann of Giant Bomb has also reported problems when putting the PS5 in Rest Mode.
Gerstmann tweeted: “Seems like putting a PS5 into rest mode while Spider-Man Remastered is running crashes the whole system”
Gerstmann went on to say that leaving the PS5 in Rest Mode seems to force “that ‘repair your external drive’ process when you start back up.”
Thankfully it seems that Jeremy Penter’s issue has been resolved by Sony as the content creator was sent out a new console which should arrive this week.
Penter tweeted: “Sony worked through yesterday with me and a replacement PS5 for the original should be here in just a bit.”
Hopefully when the PlayStation 5 releases to the general public this won’t be a wide-spread problem as we all remember the infamous Xbox 360 “Ring of Death”.
Unless you’re hoping to test out the potentially console-breaking flaw when your PS5 arrives, it might be best to be wary if you don’t want a dead console. At least until we hear from Sony!
The PlayStation 5 releases in North America, Australia and New Zealand from tomorrow, November 12, then for the rest of the world on November 19th.
