As of right now, the fifth anniversary update is live for No Man’s Sky, and it allows you to raise your own pets.

It’s crazy to think that No Man’s Sky will soon be celebrating its fifth anniversary, and to say that it’s been an up-and-down rollercoaster ride over the years is an understatement.
When No Man’s Sky originally released for PC and PS4 back in August 2016, many were left disappointed. It was a game lacking in content, promises were broken and it had an unsatisfying ending to name but a few of its launch problems.
However, after five long years, No Man’s Sky is pretty much the game it was always meant to be and the experience that’s on offer as of today is even better on new-gen consoles.
The latest update dubbed the “Companions Update” will do exactly what it says on the tin, companions will now be added to No Man’s Sky.
The No Man’s Sky Companions Update will allow you to raise pets from an egg, breed and feed them, customise them, talk to them and train them to complete tasks on your behalf. You’ll even be able to trade eggs and adopt new pets!
Your companions will also be helpful when out in the field, as they’ll be able to discover treasure, warn you of incoming hazards, scan for resources, hunt and even provide light when in dark places.

Loyal companions are not the only thing the update brings. Quality of life improvements will also be made, such as UI improvements, faster loading times on PS4, and improvements to Fauna. Oh, and you can also ride giant creatures.
You can read up on further details on all that the Companion Update will bring to No Man’s Sky via the official blog post.
