Rapper Drake Signs Multi-Year Deal With Twitch Competitor

Year on year, streaming platforms are going from strength to strength, with seemingly new rivals to Twitch, YouTube and Mixer crawling from beneath the woodwork to get a slice of the billion-dollar pie.  One such streaming platform is Caffeine, which only launched back in 2018.

One way to grab all the attention is by signing up big celebrities, just like Mixer did when they poached Fortnite pro gamer Ninja from the clutches of Twitch.  Now Caffeine has secured their own big name to the platform with Canadian rapper, Drake.

It’s quite fitting bringing both Ninja and Drake up in the conversation, because back in 2018 (ironically the year in which Caffeine launched), Ninja smashed viewer records on Twitch while playing Fortnite: Battle Royale, when Drake joined in on the stream.  At its peak, the stream gained over 635,000 viewers and Ninja gained an extra 90,000 subscribers, as well as earning a whopping $250,000 for that month!

So as fitting as it seems, it makes perfect sense for Caffeine to secure the services of world-renowned rapper Drake on a multi-year deal, especially if they even come close to the kind of numbers achieved in 2018 on that now legendary Twitch stream.

Drake is not the only rapper to join the Caffeine roster, because he now joins fellow rappers, Juju Smith-Schuster, Offset and Doja Cat.  Caffeine CEO, Ben Keighran had this to say on the recent acquisition of Drake:

“We are proud to partner with Drake and support him as he brings his vision and channel to life. As a platform, Caffeine gives Drake the freedom to pursue his creative ideas and we are excited about the whole slate of fresh content that he will share with his communities.”

While it will no doubt be a challenging task for Caffeine to compete with the likes of Twitch, YouTube and Mixer, they’re clearly attempting to make a statement in the world of streaming and with the financial backing of 21st Century Fox, expect to see even more big names join their ranks in the coming months ahead.

Will you be checking-in on Caffeine or will you be staying loyal to the already established streaming platforms of this world?
