Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Sells More Copies In Second Week Than First

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart maintains its top spot in the UK sales charts, and sells even more copies during its second week of launch.

The PlayStation 5 exclusive is a fine game, to say the least. It plays super smooth, the gameplay is satisfying, it looks stunning and it’s full of that Insomniac Games charm. It’s also arguably the best PS5 exclusive yet, and it seems that the sales charts are backing up such claims.

In a report from Gamesindustry.biz, they detailed that at least in terms of physical copies Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart outsold itself during the second week.

The data was compiled by video games sales tracker GfK Entertainment. Gamesindustry.biz also reports that new games outperforming themselves after their first week of launch is a very rare occurrence. After all, it’s quite common for most games to drop in sales after their first week, even if they stay top of the charts.

Ubisoft’s Just Dance is used as an example of the kind of game that can at times perform better in its second week. Video games with less marketing behind it often don’t have a particularly great first week. However, when word of mouth spreads, sales numbers often increase.

While it’s not a huge margin, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart received a 2% sales increase in physical sales week-on-week, and is said to also be “comfortably the best-selling game of the week.

It’s been a great week for others too!

Minecraft Dungeons on the Nintendo Switch also enjoyed a very impressive week in terms of physical sales. Thanks to the game being discounted to just £13 at UK retailer Curry’s, Minecraft Dungeons jumped up 28 places to claim the second spot. The hefty discount on Minecraft Dungeons resulted in a 758% sales increase.

Taking up the other three remaining spots in the top five UK sales charts is FIFA 21 drops to No.3 with a 21% increase week-on-week. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe dropped to No.4 with a 46% increase in sales. Finally, Resident Evil Village jumped to No.5 with a 59% increase in sales.
