Remastered Trilogy Will Reportedly Be Titled ‘Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’

A remastered Mass Effect trilogy game has been rumoured for a long time now, and it’s possibly one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming.

According to a new rumour on the unconfirmed release, the trilogy will actually be titled “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition,” and it won’t be coming to Nintendo Switch as was previously suggested.

The new leaks come from industry insider and Venture Beat reporter Jeff Grubb, who spoke candidly about the game during the Games Beat Xbox Expansion Podcast earlier this week. As noted by VGC, Grubb called the release the “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition,” which is the first time we’ve heard the name.

In a follow-up Games Beat video, Grubb went on to claim that – contrary to popular belief – the trilogy won’t be coming to Nintendo Switch.

This news – if true – is definitely a surprise, as a previous retail listing specifically noted the unannounced game would be coming to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Earlier this month, Portugese website GameReplay listed the allegedly upcoming game for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for 59,99 €, with the Nintendo Switch version coming in cheaper at 49,99 €.

As for the release date, the retailer listed the games as being available sometime in October 2020. The listing has since been pulled, though it’s not clear if this is down to a mistake in posting, or if the listing came from a genuinely leak.

Considering we’re now at the end of September and the trilogy has yet to be officially confirmed, it’s looking more and more unlikely that an October release could be happening.

EA said during an investor call back in May that it has one “EA HD title” releasing this fiscal year, i.e. before the end of March 2021. Though the project wasn’t officially revealed, Games Beat journalist Jeff Grub has stated it’s Mass Effect.
