Retro-Inspired Black PS5 ‘Cancelled Due To Credible Threats’

A limited edition black PS5 console has reportedly been cancelled due to seller SUPER5 receiving “credible threats” to staff.

You may remember a story from last week detailing a snazzy limited edition PS5 console which was about to go on sale, inspired by the black design of the beloved PS2.

While the console wasn’t officially affiliated with Sony, this sleek black design looked rather beautiful, despite selling at a premium price. Many fans have been calling for a more traditional black-designed PS5 since it launched in November 2020.

The limited edition console would have been limited to just 304 units which is a nod to the when the PS2 originally released on 03/04/00.

The console would also be accompanied by an equally sleek black DualSense controller which would be limited to 500 units.

However SUP3R5 has now reportedly cancelled the sale of the black PS5 and its DualSense controller, not due to a cease & desist from Sony but thanks to “credible threats” from angry gamers [via NME].

With such limited quantities and the added fact that PlayStation 5 consoles are still out of stock from all retailers, SUP3R5 received far more website traffic than they could handle, which resulted in many failed and incomplete orders.

As a result of this high demand SUP3R5 not only cancelled all orders but they’ve also deleted their Twitter account following the threats.

In a tweet prior to the deactivation of their account, SUP3R5 said that the: “team began receiving credible threats to their safety”.

We take these threats seriously. We aren’t willing to risk the safety and well-being of our team, or the potential impact this would bring to delivering your order,” continued SUP3R5.

It’s unknown as to when SUP3R5 might return to social media but thanks to an article from Tom’s Guide, the sale of the limited edition PS5 consoles may return when “it’s safe to try again”.

Personally I get the frustration of not being able to get a new-gen console (I myself have neither) but as I always say just “be kind”.
