Riot Games has announced that a new MMO set in the League of Legends universe is currently in development.
The news was confirmed by VP of Intellectual Property and Entertainment at Riot Games, Greg Street.
The news was announced on Twitter revealing that Riot Games is also hiring for job vacancies at the Los Angeles based studio.
“I have news! My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!” said Street in a tweet (hey, that rhymes).
Street continued: “Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.”
In his initial tweet Gregg Street didn’t confirm as to what genre this new video game set in the League of Legends universe would be. However, it soon became clear.
A Twitter follower responded to the tweet asking if the new League of Legends game would be an MMO.
“Tell me now… IS IT AN MMO? Will I be able to pick my waifu’s clothes and hairstyle?!” said the follower.
To which Street simply replied: “It is an MMO”.
However MMO is a very vast genre and can fall under a number of subcategories. Another fan asked for added clarification.
“Wait a second, just to clarify. By the technical definition, LoL is actually a MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online), so the true question is: It’s an RPG?” asked the follower.
While there was no response to this particular tweet from Greg Street a fellow fan did offer some help to clarify what genre this new League of Legends game might fall under.
Taking a screenshot from a Polygon article it was confirmed that the new League of Legends game will be an MMORPG.
Sadly that’s all we know for now, but we’re sure leaks and rumours will come soon enough. Hey, we might even get lucky with an official announcement!
