This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Endgame. As far as bowing out of a franchise goes, Tony Stark’s Iron Man did it in pretty spectacular fashion.
Typically stealing the show, Stark made the ultimate sacrifice in Endgame, as he took control of the Infinity Gauntlet in order to finally defeat Thanos.
Many fans have wondered if that would 100% be Robert Downey Jr’s final Marvel outing and it just so happens that he’s apparently not done yet.
At least to some extent anyway. That’s because Jeff Goldblum let slip that Downy Jr. or at least his voice would be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ animated series What If…?
During an interview with BuzzFeed, Goldblum confirmed that he would reprise his role of The Grandmaster.
“I played the part [of the Grandmaster] again a couple of days ago,” he spilled. “I went to the Disney Studios and I recorded the Grandmaster’s voice for an episode of a show that’s going to be on Disney+. It’s called What If…?
“It’s an animated version of all the characters we know and love from Marvel and this episode included the Grandmaster and Iron Man,” he continued. “So, Robert Downey will do the voice on that.”
The actor also confirmed that Taika Waititi would be reprising his role as Korg for the animated series. Which I think we can all agree is excellent news.
A whole host of Marvel favourites are already on board including Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, Karen Gillan, Tom Hiddleston and Dominic Cooper.
The list goes on, with Natalie Portman, Michael B. Jordan, Sebastian Stan, Mark Ruffalo and Hayley Atwell also joining the project.
Each instalment of What If…? will feature the changing of a major plot point from each movie and the series is set to join Disney+ in 2021.
