Rockstar Games has announced that it will be shutting down the online servers for GTA Online later this year.
Now before you start to panic, this won’t relate to GTA Online for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The servers will be shutting down for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.
GTA V initially launched with GTA Online for PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013. I’m sure there will be plenty of disappointed fans upon hearing this news. However, as they say, “all good things must come to an end.”
The news was announced on rockstargames.com detailing that the GTA Online servers will shut down on December 16th, 2021. Rockstar Games did stress, however, that the servers shutting down will not impact accessing the single player campaign of GTA 5.
For those that like to spend real-world money in the world of GTA Online, the Shark Cash Cards will also no longer be on sale for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions after September 15th, 2021.
Following the shutting down of the GTA Online servers for PS3 and Xbox 360, stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club for the impacted games in question will also cease to function.
Rockstar Games also revealed that stat tracking and leaderboard data will also end for Max Payne 3 and L.A Noire via the Social Club for PS3 and Xbox 360. This will come into effect from September 16th, 2021. Likewise, with GTA V, the changes to Max Payne 3 and L.A Noire will have no impact accessing the single player campaigns.
goodbye old friend
The main reason that Rockstar Games has come to these decisions is so that it can focus more on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of GTA Online. Not to mention that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are releasing this Fall.
“We’d like to thank the GTA Online community for their continued support, and look forward to seeing players continue their journey in Los Santos with us on new platforms.” Rockstar Games said. “For more information, please visit Rockstar Support.”
