Wrexham AFC, the football team chaired by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will be playable in FIFA 22.
Earlier this year, the acting pair announced that they had become co-owners of Wrexham AFC. It’s a bizarre turn of events for the third oldest football club in the world, but here we are. Today, EA Sports has announced that Wrexham is officially coming to FIFA 22 this year. The inclusion is a multi-year partnership with EA Sports, meaning the team will likely remain in the game moving forward.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney released a short video to announce the inclusion. The pair’s typically humourous delivery explains exactly where the poky place of Wrexham is located, jokingly described as ‘Rest of World’.
Outside of including Wrexham in FIFA 22, EA Sports is also supporting the team’s efforts off the pitch. Part of that work includes helping the local community with an initiative at the Wrexham Glyndwr University. The team is also working to provide a community lounge at the local Racecourse Ground in the future.

David Jackson, VP Brand at EA Sports, said: ‘It’s great to be partnering with Wrexham AFC and to support the club’s commitments to the Wrexham community and its fans.
‘’We’re excited to launch innovative community projects in collaboration with the Club, and for Wrexham fans to experience playing with their side in EA SPORTS FIFA 22 when the game releases later this month.”
Executive Director of FIFA 22, Humphrey Kier, added: ‘The co-chairmen [Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney] talked about making Wrexham a global force when they became its custodians and are now able, with our fans, to take on the Rest of the World, as part of that journey.’
Sadly, it doesn’t seem like either of the two actors will appear in FIFA 22 as themselves. Especially given Ryan Reynolds recent movie ‘Free Guy’, which is heavily themed around video games, it would be great to see him actually appear in one.
